Driving Under the Influence Causes Another Fatal Crash

A man from Summerville, Sidney E. Son Jr., 43, has been charged with felony driving under the influence.

Witnesses have stated to deputies that Son was going fast down Highway 61 near Magnolia Plantation at the time of the wreck, which is estimated to be 12:05 a.m.  When his SUV came back to the right lane, he rear-ended Dwight Ives, 59, who was driving a moped.  The incident report states that the SUV then went on to crash into a tree off the road.

Investigators who were at the scene claim that Son has bloodshot, watery eyes, and smelled of alcohol.

Mr. Ives did not survive the crash.  Mr. Son was injured, and was taken to  the Medical University of South Carolina.  He was being treated there when the charges from The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office were given.

After being released from the hospital, he was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon.  Wednesday morning, his bond of $52,249 was given.
